This powerful and hopeful film, and last year’s Cannes Grand Jury Prize-winner from Belgian brother-directors Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne (Lorna’s Silence, Rosette) is a memorable portrait of a troubled youth and the charity of strangers. Eleven year old Cyril (Thomas Doret) cannot believe his father (Jérémie Renier) has really abandoned him to the orphanage. Escaping, he uses his freedom to search for his missing bike, which he believes will lead him to his father. By total accident, he meets a kind local hairdresser (Cécile de France) who becomes a fairy god-mother to him, determined to help. But she soon learns Cyril’s unpredictable behavior threatens their relationship.
