JIRO DREAMS OF SUSHI
(PG) 81min
[in Japanese with subtitles]
May 22 - 24, 6:00 and 8:00
Eighty-five year old Jiro Ono, whose unassuming, 10-seat sushi restaurant, located inauspiciously in a Tokyo subway station yet earned a coveted 3 star Michelin review, is considered by many to be the world’s greatest sushi chef. This humble man has spent his entire life dedicated to the perfection of his craft, a never-ending quest for simplicity that indicates true purity. Filmmaker and sushi lover David Gelb’s delightful documentary is not just absolutely beautiful food porn, but it also examines the life of this singular man, a living treasure in Japan, and his effect on his two sons, the younger off running his own restaurant, the elder still apprenticed to his father waiting to take over the family business.
