With honest emotions, this reflective drama is both authentic and provocative. Zoey Deutch plays Sam, a perfectly charmed high school senior who is part of a popular clique; one day, suddenly, she has no future and is trapped reliving a pivotal day over and over again, eventually deciding to try to achieve a different outcome and break the cycle of her life and discover the value of both her life and that of those around her. Mixing elements of Mean Girls and Groundhog Day, and based on the 2010 YA novel by Lauren Oliver, indie director Ry Russo-Young (Nobody Walks) and screenwriter Maria Maggenti (The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love) have made a compelling film about young people on the verge of changing decisions.
