Shirley MacLaine brings her signature vitality to her spirited performance of a once successful, now retired but still controlling businesswoman who decides to have her obituary written in advance of her demise, so she can make sure it's worthy of her. At the local paper, where the editor still owes her for years of business, she demands the services of the staff obit writer (Amanda Seyfried) but when she doesn't like the first draft, this cynical and curmudgeonly woman sets out to create an appropriate legacy, bringing the writer along to help. This winning, touching, crowd-pleasing comedy also stars Anne Heche as her estranged daughter and Philip Baker Hall as her ex-husband.
