At the height of the London air-raids early in WWII, a group of screenwriters is tasked with creating stirring, short propaganda films to show between the features at the cinema. In this charming, uplifting and old-fashioned comedy-drama from Danish director Lone Scherfig (Italian for Beginners, An Education), Gemma Arterton stars as the token woman hired to write the women’s dialogue. But she joins forces with her cynical co-worker (Sam Claflin) to make an epic film about the recent Dunkirk rescue with a gloriously vain matinee idol (Bill Nighy), which does not go as planned, even as the bombs are falling around them.
