This fascinating and darkly comic story about a minor-league compulsive schmoozer who unintentionally hits the bigtime is the English language debut of twice Oscar-nominated American-Israeli filmmaker Joseph Cedar (Beaufort, Footnote). Featuring a brilliant, powerful performance by Richard Gere in the title role, ably assisted by a stellar group of co-stars including Steve Buscemi, Michael Sheen, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Hank Azaria, this delightful comedy follows a naïve older hustler in New York City who makes a random, ambiguous connection with a low level Israeli diplomat. When some years later, that lowly diplomat becomes the country’s Prime Minister, Norman is suddenly thrust into an improved level of social status in his community that he perhaps doesn’t deserve.
