Engrossing and evocative, this is the story of JD Salinger, reclusive author of the coming of age classic “Catcher in the Rye,” based on the warts-and-all biography by Kenneth Slawenski, and written and directed by screenwriter (Lee Daniels The Butler) and TV producer and director (Empire) Danny Strong. Featuring an excellent performance by Nicholas Hoult in the lead role, as well as fine supporting performances by Kevin Spacey, Zooey Deutch and Hope Davis, this story of the man who would write one of the most influential novels of his century follows young Jerry thru three great losses and three great teachers, through college, European military service at the end of WWII, and to his retreat to NH after the fame it brought him by his book’s publication.
