In 1973, in the wake of the sexual revolution and the rise of the women's movement, 3 time Wimbledon champ and obnoxious chauvinist Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell) challenged reigning women’s champion Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) to a tennis match that became one of the most watched televised sports events of all time. Ms. King, at the time struggling to come to terms with her own sexuality, felt the outcome of this match would make or break the women’s rights movement while Riggs looked to inflate his media image as he wrestled with his gambling demons at the expense of his family. Co-directed by husband and wife team of Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton (Little Miss Sunshine) from a screenplay by Simon Beaufoy (The Full Monty, Slumdog Millionaire) and co-starring Alan Cummings, Sarah Silverman, Fred Armison and Elizabeth Shue is a crowd-pleasing drama about a conversation that still reverberates today.
