Glenn Close gives a showstopping performance in this suspenseful, compelling story based on the Meg Wolitzer novel and directed by Swedish filmmaker Björn Runge. She is the supportive wife of a celebrated novelist (Jonathan Pryce) who has been chosen to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. While in Sweden with their son (Max Irons), an aspiring writer who is desperate for his father’s approval, they are pursued by a pushy journalist (Christian Slater) who wants to write the man’s biography. The film interweaves the story of couple’s courtship with a portrait of a long marriage full of compromise, secrets, betrayal and love.
