Melissa McCarthy has totally earned her Golden Globe nomination for best actress with her soulful and dynamic performance in this fascinating comedic drama from filmmaker Marielle Heller (Diary of a Teenage Girl) of an adaptation by Nicole Holofcener of the memoir of best-selling celebrity biographer Lee Israel. In the 1980s, as her 30 year career faded, she'd become a lonely cat woman trying to survive in NYC. Desperately needing more jobs to make ends meet, she found a new direction by forging letters by dead literary giants and selling them to dealers. Co-star Richard E Grant also gives an affecting performance as her disreputable accomplice, and Jane Curtin plays her dismissive agent.
