This Cannes Jury prize winner and Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language film is an affecting and empathetic drama from Lebanese director Nadine Labaki (Caramel). She tells the story of Zain (played by a first time actor and Syrian refugee), a defiant, gutsy young boy living on the streets of Beirut. He leaves his home where he has been neglected and finds a friend in a kindly Ethiopian undocumented refugee cleaning woman and helps her by taking care of her baby. One day the mom does not return and he struggles to care for himself and the baby. After being jailed for a violent act, he seeks justice by suing his parents for the “crime” of giving him life.
