In 1613 a catastrophic fire destroys William Shakespeare’s renowned Globe Theatre and he returns home to his wife Anne (Judi Dench) and grown children in Stratford-upon-Avon, never to write again. Kenneth Branaugh directs and stars in this beautiful, intelligent and credible if speculative drama about the Bard’s later years, spent puttering in his garden, pining for his muse and benefactor the Earl of Southampton (Ian McKellen) and struggling to mend his broken relationships with his family.
