This exhilarating and timely dramatic documentary follows Tracy Edwards, a young British woman who in the 1980s wanted to skipper a boat in the grueling, 33,000 nautical mile Whitbread Round the World challenge (now called the Volvo Ocean Race). But a woman had never participated in the race before, except as a cook, and why should they start now? Still she rallied a remarkable crew and purchased a boat, all the while facing institutional sexism from both the organization and the media. With archival footage, including homemade movies of the journey these women took, plus recent interviews with some of the participants, this powerful film from filmmaker Alex Holmes pays tribute to a true pioneer.
