BLINDED BY THE LIGHT
Sep 17 - 23, 5:30 & 8:00
When a classmate gives first generation Pakistani Brit Javed two cassettes of Bruce Springsteen’s music, his life in 1987 Thatcher-era England is turned upside down. His traditional father expects him to conform to the family’s ethnic conventions, but Javed thinks of himself as British, not Pakistani. Based on the memoir of broadcaster and journalist Sarfraz Manzoor and co-written with director Gurinder Chadha (Bend it Like Beckham) this compelling, feel-good, and life-affirming comedy-drama explores cross-cultural xenophobia in an economic downturn.
