Jewish-Maori filmmaker Taika Waititi (The Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Thor:Rangarok) uses his signature absurdist humor in his latest, an enchanting, mischeivous, fractured fairytale. He plays the idiotic, imaginary friend, in the image of Hitler, of a fatherless ten year old boy who is just starting summer camp for Hitler youth in 1944 (Sam Rockwell and Rebel Wilson play the camp leaders). When he discovers that his mother (Scarlett Johansson) has been hiding a Jewish girl (Thomasin McKensie, Leave No Trace) in their attic, he must confront his blind nationalism.
