Filmmaker Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line, Tree of Life) returns with another gorgeous and powerfully engrossing story, this one of a conscientious objector during WW2. August Diehl (Inglourious Basterds) is a peasant farmer in bucolic Austria who, refusing to swear an oath to Hitler, is supported by his loving wife (Valerie Pachner) but not his community. Matthias Schoenaerts plays a neighbor trying to convince the farmer to change his mind, along with co-stars and late actors Swede Michael Nyqvist and Swiss Bruno Ganz who both give their final roles. This true story explores the strength required for resistance and the courage required to hold convictions.
